Pricing a freelance project: a simple framework
Published August 15, 2026 · WDOYN
Pricing paralysis loses work. Here's a framework you can run in five minutes when you send an offer.
1. Scope the common case
Assume the project goes roughly as described. List the concrete deliverables and rough hours for each.
2. Add a buffer, not a fudge
Add 15–25% for revisions and coordination. If the brief is vague, say so and price the likely version.
3. Convert to a number and a window
Give a fixed price (or a tight range) and a delivery window in days. Clients compare offers on clarity as much as cost.
4. Name the variables
"This assumes final copy is provided and up to two rounds of revisions." One sentence protects both sides.
5. Don't race to the bottom
On WDOYN the client already sees a shortlist, not fifty bids. Price for the value and the outcome, not to undercut.
